23 DEC 09 - JAZZ CLUB - There is nothing like good jazz. Good jazz can make the cruddiest dive seem so full of character and life. Take these stage lights for example: These are not high quality lights. At least not anymore. If anything, they're heavily used or acquired second hand from another decade. The color screens are aged, weathered, and cracking, And they look just as likely to come unhinged and uncuss someone below as they do to make it through the entire set tonight. But somehow, no lighting is more appropriate. And that's because of the music. The music played at bar turns the spotty, garish lighting from these lights and makes it magical. Likewise, the bar goes from a tiny, blip of a hole in the wall to a place where treasure can be found in the form of bands that have the power to play your senses. That might sound a little dramatic, but I can't tell how many times I've walked into a venue to hear music thinking just how much "this PLACE is so not me" for whatever reason, only to have all such thoughts fade into the background the moment I hear good music start to play. These lights are now perfect.
